Zurich North America - Associate Program

Associate Program

Education. Experience. Opportunities.

The future is now. Your future is here. Over the years, you’ve taken classes and studied for exams. You’ve researched various professions and looked into different areas of expertise. You’ve had jobs, but what about building a career? If you’ve set goals for yourself, now is the time to realize them. Explore the Zurich Associate Program.

What is the Associate Program?

The Zurich Associate Program is a unique learning, mentoring and networking program that provides select individuals with an insurance education, experience in the way we do business and opportunities to build a career.

It’s part of our philosophy to assess high potential and develop talent from within our organization. You will soon discover that it is a privilege to be selected for this unique program because today’s participants in the Associate Program represent the future of Zurich.

If you are selected for the program, you will be given the honor and opportunity to build a long-standing insurance career--and a bright future--with Zurich, one of the world’s leading property-casualty insurers.

And the possibilities don't end there. If you're interested in international opportunities, consider our Global Associate Program. If you like to travel and can fluently speak at least one foreign language, you may be just who we're looking for. Due to the size of our global business, your role could initially be based at any one of three international locations participating in the Global Associate Program: Switzerland, Germany or the United Kingdom. As part of your application, mobility and flexibility on location are essential.

When are Associates selected for the program?

Twice a year, we select strategic thinkers, creative minds, team players and confident risk-takers to participate in this special program.

"I knew I wanted to enter into a service-type profession that focused on people’s safety. This program lets us be exposed to many different aspects of the business." --Zurich Associate

How is the Associate Program different from an internship?

While many internships are valuable, worthwhile programs, our Associate Program has a more structured and professional agenda. Associates participate in broad-based training sessions and work directly with our experienced underwriters, risk engineers and claims professionals across the U.S. over the course of 11 months.

Every U.S. Associate Program class kicks off in our North American headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill., about 45 minutes northwest of Chicago. Associates first take part in a series of insurance and general business workshops. The insurance workshops focus on the core disciplines of commercial insurance: Claims, Risk Engineering and Underwriting.

Associates work directly with our experienced underwriters, risk engineers and claims professionals to learn how to provide insurance services for the most sophisticated buyers of insurance. This hands-on experience includes:

  • Claims - You will adjust property-casualty insurance claims by interpreting policy coverage, investigating losses and negotiating settlements.
  • Risk Engineering - You will partner with safety professionals to help our customers gain better control of their exposures by developing practical, cost-effective solutions to address the causes of loss.
  • Underwriting - You will network with top professionals and become skilled at underwriting insurance coverage for our commercial customers.

"This program is unique. It provides a great opportunity to network with industry professionals, including underwriters, and the field rotations help to clarify each business unit’s specialty area." --Zurich Associate

What opportunities does this program provide?

As a Zurich Associate, you will begin an exciting journey toward building a future with us. We will continuously support you in your educational pursuits and encourage you to stretch yourself beyond your comfort zone. We will help you take ownership of your learning experience, to expand your professional horizons and seek opportunities that will propel you closer to your career goals.
